The Gentle Leader dog leash can be converted to a regular collar for more flexibility.
This leash was designed by a senior veterinary surgeon and former president of the National Dog Trainers Association in the USA. The leash allows owners to prevent dogs or puppies from dragging their owners and makes training basic commands such as sit, stay still, and come very quick and easy due to its effect on the way dogs think, relax, and behave.

- Most dogs of all sizes do not respond to a regular collar or harness and resist the pressure by pulling their owners in the other direction. This leash is unique in its kind, and works on three points:
- The pressure is transferred to the back of the neck, which naturally stimulates relaxation (a feeling similar to what a puppy feels when its mother holds it by the neck).
- Gentle pressure around the nose and jaw, which does not prevent the dog from opening his mouth

How to install it on the dog
1. Connect your dog's leash to the control ring
2. Release the loop on the neckband and secure it at each end
3. Place the leash around your dog's neck so that it touches the base of your dog's skull in the back and is aligned over his Adam's apple in the front.
4. You should be able to squeeze with one finger under the neck strap. This will seem to fit more snugly than a regular collar, but your dog will still be comfortable
5. Release the loop and remove the collar from the dog.
6. Open the adjustable sliding clamp and slide it down toward the control ring where the leash attaches.
7. Pull the nose ring up through the central double D ring, which is located in the central part of the "T" shape.
8. Holding the neck strap in your hands, slide the nose ring you just created over your dog's nose. Then connect the two ends of the necktie around the dog's neck.
9. Slide the adjustable sliding clamp up so that it is below the dog's jaw.
10. The nose ring should now be in front of your dog's eyes but behind the corners of his mouth, and loose enough to pull forward to the beginning of the fleshy part of his nose.
11. Make a final adjustment to the nose ring and then close the adjustable sliding clasp.
12. Once fitted in this way, it will not be necessary to reopen the adjustable sliding clamp, unless your dog is still growing.
